Carroll's interest in Asia began during her studies at the University of Hawaii,
majoring in fine arts with an emphasis in textile design and weaving. After leaving
the design business she began a travel career and has traveled extensively in
China, including three tours to Tibet. She added Mongolia to her tour repertoire
six years ago after visiting a friend who was working in Ulaan Baatar for the
Naadam festivities. Once again the people and their history inspired her to return
with groups and share her experiences. Having experienced the influences of Tibetan
Buddhism in Mongolia and Tibet has added to her desire to experience Bhutan. Camille has escorted eight tours to Bhutan since her first in 1999 and has add India and Sikkim to her tours. Chencho Tshering, owner of Dechen Cultural Tours & Trekking Co., has been in the travel business for most of his adult life. Even as a young student, he was very interested to share his knowledge of the history, religion and culture of his beautiful country with other nationalities and often escorted groups of foreign visitors during his school holidays. In October, 1987, Chencho was selected and sponsored by the Bhutan Tourism Corporation and the United Nations Development Program to pursue a two year course in food service at the the Singapore Hotel Association Training & Education Center (SHATEC). After returning to Bhutan he was attached to the major hotels in Thimphu and Paro and was in charge of food services for visiting tourists and government guests. In 1991 the government privatized the tourism industry and Chencho took the opportunity to travel to Germany to work for a short time. Although Chencho enjoyed this part of the tourism business, he soon longed to be back working with groups and in late 1992 he accepted a position with a local tour operator. Finally, in February, 1999, he was granted the first new license for the travel industry and established Dechen Cultural Tours & Trekking Company, named after his daughter. Chencho believes that personal service and a high standard of quality has to be number one for his guests and his company. His knowledge of Bhutan, strong Buddhist beliefs and deep love for his country shows in all that he does and enables his guests to leave Bhutan with a better understanding of the "Land of the Thunder Dragon".
