TURKEY
|
![]() | Turkey
is one of the most exotic destinations in the world. Not to be missed are its
covered bazaars, sultans' treasures, historic and religious sites, and the natural
beauty of the landscape and coastlines. With borders on seven different nations, Turkey is an exciting mix of many cultures and religions which have shaped this ancient land for more than 10,000 years. The oldest evidence of mankind in this region were human remains dating back a million years. The classical Romans called it "Asia Minor", and to the ancient people who came before them, it was simply "Anatolia" - the Motherland. Under the rule of Ataturk in 1923 the country became "Turkiye", the land of the Turks. Not only the country but numerous cities, towns and ancient sites have had many names over the eons, and hearing these ancient names adds to the mystic of this extraordinary land.
